Walk the Brontë Way
Passing close by The Croft cottage, The Bronte Way is a 69km footpath which starts at Oakwell Hall (“Fieldhead” in Charlotte Bronte’s novel “Shirley”) near Birstall in Kirklees near Bradford, and ends at Gawthorpe Hall in Padiham near Burnley in Lancashire’s Pendle Witch Country.
Climb Pendle Hill
We say climb, there are steps, so don’t worry you don’t need your climbing gear! A little over 10 miles away the area is most famous for its links to the now notorious witch trials of 1612, Pendle Hill and its surrounding towns and villages offer a truely bewitching experience.
Mountain Biking
A mere 5-10 minute cycle and you can join the Pennine bridleway on Boulsworth hill. With routes to suite all abilities the Pennine way offers miles and miles of adventure. Also great for long walks. Go a little further afield and find the fantastic Gisburn Forest Bike Trails in the Forest of Bowland AONB.
Trawden Forest Community Centre, Library and Shop
We are super proud of our community in Trawden and our local community shop epitomises the spirit of Trawden. They refer to themselves as "the little shop with a big heart" and this certainly is true!
Pendle Heritage Centre
Situated beside an ancient crossing of Pendle Water, this group of attractive Listed Grade II farm buildings and walled garden offers the ideal day out for the whole family, and is the perfect base from which to explore the Pendle area either on foot or by car.
Visit Stockeld Park
Stockeld Park is a Grade-I listed country house and estate situated between the towns of Wetherby and Harrogate, North Yorkshire. It's a fantastic family day out and a great place for an adventure.
The longest show cave in Britain
White Scar cave in the Yorkshire Dales National Park is the longest show cave in Britain. The guided tour covers one mile and takes about 80 minutes.

Hesketh Farm Park
Hesketh Farm Park is set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, just 1 mile from the picturesque village of Bolton Abbey and 5 miles from the market town of Skipton. The Farm Park is idyllic, with around 10 acres of greenery overlooking the Yorkshire hills and the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam train whistling by in the valley below.

The popular alpaca walking experience at Wildwood Alpacas is a truely unique day out that the whole family will enjoy. You'll head through the farmland and moorland following the footsteps of the Bronte sisters and take in the beautiful local scenery.
Wycoller village and country park
Just 5 miles from The Croft sits the beautiful village of Wycoller. Steeped in history and archaeology, Wycoller Hall (now a ruin) is thought to be the inpiration behind Ferndean Manor in the novel Jane Eyre written by Charlotte Brontë. Various ancient bridges cross Wycoller Beck, including ‘Pack-Horse Bridge’, a twin arched bridge in the centre of the village, ‘Clapper Bridge’ and ‘Clam Bridge’. The last is believed to be of neolithic origin (at least, over 1,000 years old) and is listed as an ancient monument.
Skipton Castle
For over 900 years Skipton Castle was guardian of the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. It is one of the most complete and best preserved medieval castles in England and is well worth a visit at any season of the year. Situated at the head of the high street, Skipton town itself is a fascinating place with its historic buildings and interesting past.
Brontë Parsonage Museum
The Brontë Parsonage Museum is a writer’s house museum maintained by the Brontë Society in honour of the Brontë sisters – Charlotte, Emily and Anne. The museum is in the former Brontë family home, the parsonage in Haworth, West Yorkshire where the sisters spent most of their lives and wrote their famous novels.
Hebden Bridge
Hebden Bridge is a fantastic small market town nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Pennines. Full of cafes, art galleries and intriguing little independent shops this pretty little town ticks all the boxes.
Alkincoates Woodland
At the top of Alkincoates Park sits the gorgeous Alkincoates Woodland. It's a haven for wildlife with a wide variety of trees, grasses and wildflowersthat attracts a range of insects including bees, dragonflies, damselflies and numerous butterflies.

Grassington is certainly a beautiful village in Upper Wharfedale’s stunning scenery, but it’s far more than that. Whether it’s the sense of history, or perhaps the great shops, the friendly pubs, or the welcoming locals, who knows? They all contribute to the magic of this place.

The four and a half mile Ingleton Waterfalls Trail boasts some of the most spectacular waterfall and oak woodland scenery in the UK, truly encapsulating nature at its best.
Malham Cove

Towneley Hall, Park & Gardens
Towneley Hall sits in an extensive historic parkland landscape of formal gardens, woodland walks, sculpture and nature trails. The magnificent hall, which dates from the 14th century, contains fine period rooms decorated with oil paintings and sculptures.

The Alma Inn
